Made famous by being home to the spectacular Ruwenzori Mountains, Uganda is country of immense beauty. Recovering from recent civil war, the country is making every effort to promote eco-tourism and develop the country’s many natural assets.
Mt Elgon is the country’s second highest peak and surrounded by thick indigenous forests, is home to many species of unique flora and fauna.
The best times to visit Uganda are in the dry season which are June to September and December to February. Owing to the high altitude the temperatures are somewhat temperate considering the country’s position in relation to the equator. Mt Elgon often has an ice-cap and the mountain regions are generally cooler than other parts of the country.
Health Information for Uganda
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers, and a typhoid vaccination certificate is recommended. Malaria is a risk throughout the country at all times of the year. It’s essential to take prophylactics and use insect repellent. Drink only bottled water. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled. |
